Culture for the next generation

For any child growing up in India, time after school is often spent in dance and music classes, instrument classes, art classes and many more. Parents through generations have felt the need to inculcate Indian culture and tradition in their children and carry a part of their heritage in this globalised environment.
One parent explained “My daughter has been learning music for a long time and this is basically because we are a family that enjoys classical Indian music and my daughter also showed interest and had the talent. We don’t force the children into culture but give them options, and if they show interest then we encourage them.”
Children similarly despite distractions of TV and computers also show a certain amount of interest. Girl children especially show a keener interest and the number of young girls who traipse to Bharatanatyam classes regularly is testament to the popularity of this art form.
At a young age dance and art holds much fascination for them and often parents also send children to classes as a means of occupying their time usefully and while almost all children show an interest in handiwork and drawing a few are really talented and pursue it as an interest.
