Dress code in Engineering colleges(chennai)!!!!!!

Almost all the engineering colleges in chennai have dress codes. Having dress codes is fine but keeping it so conventional is really bad. We don't get to have any freedom in choosing what to wear. Its worse than school life. I think once we reach college level we should be given the choice to wear what we want like in other cities in the country.

We should were uniform

We should were uniform as there shall be recognization of which school. But I to fell it as a bore but our school 'Balalok' is a school where after any festival they will tell us to wear a colour dress. Thus in our school we do not feel bored too.

freedom of choice?

Sorry, i totally disagree. When we enter college, most of us would have crossed 18yrs, we are legally adults. Will we not have enough sense to choose appropriate dresses according to our taste? Why do we need the institution to dictate what we have to wear, when this is a free country, one where we should learn to make our own choices?
For the previous years of our life (i.e, in school) we have faithfully complied with rules and worn uniforms, which is a very good thing, but when we enter college, at least a certain degree of freedom should be given to us; the freedom to choose what to wear. In fact, this makes us wiser and will help us in later life so we can dress accordingly. It might be a pain at first, having to choose each day's outfit, or having people dress up too much, but it too has to be taken as a learning experience.
When in all universities over the world, people are allowed to choose what they want to wear, why not here?

Wearing "UNIFORMS" is better

Wearing "UNIFORMS" sounds much better.
Wearing of colour dress in colleges has become a big problem for many students.I asked students of colleges for their opinion on this, most of them find uniforms better because students pay more attention to thier dress and looks and forget their main reason for going to collage. Moreover there is a lot of comparison among students about their robes. They say that uniforms make them feel they are equal to one another and they all feel the same.

DRESS CODE WILL NOT MAR THE STUDENTS PROGRESSION

Adhereing to dress code might open up a debate,-whether to have it or not, in city colleges. But it really matters to students who come from lower strata of living because, this will definetly have an impact on their academics. These students instead of concenterating on their studies, will start thinking about the dress they have to wear for the days to come.Having dress code will, in no way mar the students progression.

Dress code not a problem

Wearing formal dress is not a huge problem because as a student
we have to obey the rules of college. If dress code restrictions have not been executed students might wear dress which are inappropriate, so it is important to have dress codes. As future engineers and professionals we have to follow such restriction and this will be helpfull for us while working in a company.

dress code long running issue

This issue about having dress code in colleges has been a topic of hot debate and discussion. when I started attending college i was a little appalled to see that a certain dress code existed here as well for the boys and girls alike...I was like,"oh my god!!!wasn't school uniform enough that now in college troo I would have towear suits here. Throughout the first semester I kept cribbing about it.... but gradually I accepted the fact this dress code to a certain extent was appropriate. So placing some restrictions is all right as long as the college management doesn't take the drastic step of introducing a uniform like school.

Dress Code in Colleges

The absence of a uniform understanding about the appropriateness of dressing to College is what brings about a lot of controversy and heat when Uniforms are introduced.

May be while at school, students feel very restricted by wearing the same uniform over the years till they pass out of the School. This may evoke a feeling of liberation and wanting to show themselves in the best of colours and style.
While this is understandable, equating the college with party joints or holiday spots is not acceptable.

I have seen boys and girls wearing attrocious apparels, in addition to their various alterations to the hair style make up and ornaments on the face. The typical style which elicits whows! and whistles! from co students.

Add to this filmy trends and we have the recipe for disaster in the actual objectives of education of the students. Citing a few examples of such 'ill-clothed' students as being brilliant in their studies does not make it the norm or cannot pass of as applicable to all and sundry.

Actually such attitudes get carried forward to the real life, when the students leave college and choose vocations. I know of an example of college students in Coimbatore, who made a mockery of the Graduation and qualification, when they attended an interview. It is a matter of time when the big wigs like TCS, Wipro and others will spot the disease and bid good bye to the 'reputed' colleges. Then may be all the students have to look foward to recruitment in the Bollywood, Kollywood or in some other Woods.

India has a wide variety of modest dressing styles which must be encouraged in Colleges. However, if compliance is not forthcoming, Uniform is the best.

having dress code is nothing

There is nothing wrong with having a dress code in colleges although we are not in school to follow such restrictions. Unfortunately there are students who take advantage of collage life. College attire must be decent, we are not living in western countries to imitate their dressing sense. In India people give importance to culture whether we live in the metro or elsewhere. We must be conscious about our dressing as there could be people who follow or imitate us and we must set a good example for them.
