Stand Up To That Bully
Schools have recently been getting a lot of bad press due to the shooting incidences that resulted in tragedy. Bullying, petty squabbles, animosity, gang rivalries and so much more have divided many schools into the bully, the bullied and the others. Unfortunately most schools are ill-equipped to handle this, because bullying is often dismissed as “children will be children”. Then again who didn’t have a bully back in school who filled lunch boxes with sand, stole your pencils and hid your bag.
But times are different now, dangerously so. Stolen pencil boxes are hardly worth the worry, violence is what looms large. Schools are increasingly witnessing unnecessary violence-temper tantrums gone unbelievably wrong. While it is easy to blame the media and the movies, complaining does no solve the problem, it is a sad reality we need to live with and most importantly deal with.
Bullying makes a child, depressed, anxious, affects him/her emotionally, physically and will definitely reflect in their school work.
Bullying can refer to anything from teasing and theft to aggressive behaviour and speech.
If you are being bullied here are a few things keep in mind:
*Always walk in a group, remember safety in numbers, in a group a bully is less likely to pick on you
*Bullies are usually insecure people who work on other people’s weaknesses, so do not show fear
*Do not get provoked, do not have a ‘tit for tat’ mentality, it would only worsen things
*If the bullying is getting out of control, tell a parent, friend or teacher, someone who will understand and help you out
*Never resort to violence
