Boxing Day
While 25th December is widely known and celebrated as Christmas Day, the following day (specifically the following week day) is also celebrated. 26th December, popularly called Boxing Day, has been observed seen the Middle Ages. It is celebrated in USA, UK, Canada and many Commonwealth nations.
On Boxing Day employers give their staff and employees gift boxes and is one of the reasons for its name. It is also believed that in the Middle Ages the day following Christmas the serfs and servants of the king would gather in the castle and the king would distribute boxes of food and clothing to all-hence Boxing Day.
Another folklore holds that the serfs would carry boxes to the king on the day following Christmas to collect coins and other valuables, similar to present day office bonuses. While the reasons are plenty-it is to this day practiced to give bonuses to employees.
