The twenty-second and twenty-third of February 2008 saw the celebration of Prakriti Chetna at Good Earth School, Naduveerapattu. Participants from 10 schools were given transport facility from Philips Hospital to the venue. The legislations of the two day programme began with the rendering of melodious invocation by the students of Class IX. We, students of classes six, seven and eight, went on a trip to Yelagiri. On Friday, the 14th of March, at six in the morning, we set out to conquer the hill. A guide accompanied us as we began our ascent. It was a long walk from where we were staying to the base of the hill. Once we had reached it, we were informed that we would have to walk for another hour or so. We started walking in small groups of 3 to 4 people, since the tracks were narrow and strewn with rocks and stones. ...

On the 17th of March, two members of a collective came to Good Earth School to tell us about the Bhopal Gas Tragedy. They sat with us, explaining to us how Union Carbide, the multinational corporation that was responsible for the tragedy left India without any substantial compensation for the people. They also told us of Dow Chemicals, which bought Union Carbide in 1999, has been refusing to provide compensation as they claim they did not own or operate the factory at Bhopal at the time. ...
